Rotary - Your Weekly Rotary Minute 20091007

This week we are having a group from Keane University. Dr. Denise Ellis and Dr. Virginia Kaiser and a two students from Keane. Their work revolves around social issues that include, for example, poverty, homelessness, hunger, violence and children at risk are occurring at an alarming rate. Union, Union county, the state of New Jersey and the nation are experiencing these problems. Social work students and professionals are in a unique position to meet these challenges.

The Rotary Club and Kean University Social Work Students and Faculty have several things in common. One of the most important is that both entities want to build goodwill, peace and contribute to conflict resolution throughout the world.

Four exemplary students were hand-picked by Dr. Ellis. They attended my classes during the 2008 – 2009 academic year. They each possess the drive, determination and skills necessary to actively and successfully participate in a coordinated effort of this magnitude. As a group, these students have participated in meetings, identified and refined the topic they anticipate presenting, and are continuing to conduct research on schools of social work in Turkey.

October 8th - Foundation Seminar, Toucan Restaurant, Somerset. We will have three members attending.

** November 9th -- Eat drink and share. 6:00 PM  9:00 PM
For all of you that have never been, this is a real treat. It is a major fund raising event for the foundation.
BUT, it is truly a fun evening filled with many, many gastronmic treats. Lots of esoteric foods, great wines and pastries.

I am challenging the club to take two tables this year. Bring your spouse or a friend...or both.
