Namu is 50 years old and lives in Paynesville. She is married and her husband is an engineer. They have three children ages 9 to 25 years old and all of them are attending school. For the past five years, she has been selling cement, charcoal and drinks wholesale. Her business happens to be the only source of her income, so she is greatly praising God for this endeavor. She is requesting a loan to purchase more cement, charcoal and drinks to sell to her customers. In the future, she plans to build a bigger store with a separate division for drinks, cement and charcoal.

Fátima lives in the town of Masaya together with her husband and children. Her plans for her family are to improve their living conditions. Fátima has been farming for several years. In particular, she grows cassava. The biggest problem that she faces is that she doesn't have enough capital to be able to invest in her business and provide her crops with the care they need.
Fátima will invest this loan in buying tree cassava, a plow, fertilizers, etc. She is grateful for the support that Afodenic are providing through their Kiva fund as, without these programs, it wouldn't be possible for her to make this investment as these funds provide a lot of benefits as a result of their low interest rates.

We met Mrs. Luisa in the town on Kiteni, Quillabamba district, province of La Convención, Cuzco, and she told us:
"I was born in the city of Quillabamba. I am 52 years old and have five children. Now I live in the city of Kiteni and this is where I work selling fruit and raising small animals".
Luisa is a hard-working and enterprising lady who works to help her family get ahead. She heard from some friends about a financial organization that provides micro-loans to invest in businesses and, without giving it another thought, she decided to join the Choclo de Oro de Kiteni (Ketini's Golden Corn) community bank. The Arariwa Association chose to form the community bank because it trusts the members. Luisa asked for a loan to invest in her business raising chickens.

Yasha is engaged in an agricultural business. He keeps livestock and has agro machinery. Agriculture is the family’s main source of income, but it is not enough to cover the Yasha family’s daily costs. With the requested loan he plans to increase livestock, develop agriculture further, and increase income. Yasha is desperate to improve the living conditions of his family. He lives together with his wife and son.

Mariana Mercedes is 39 years old and married. She lives with her husband and children in the canton of Ventanas in Los Ríos Province.
The Communal Bank “San Francisco de Sibimbe” is located in the neighborhood of Recinto Sibimbe in the canton of Ventanas. This Communal Bank has 20 members who engage in short-cycle farming. They grow corn and rice.
Mariana is a farmer who grows corn and rice. She buys her supplies in Ventanas each month and then sells her products at the fair in the same location.
Mariana is requesting a loan to buy seeds, fertilizers, and compost. With the financial assistance provided through this loan, she will be able to acquire needed supplies. Her dream is to have money so that she can provide her children everything they need.
Mariana enjoys reading and cleaning house.

The members belong to the “Yayanmarca” communal bank which is located in Urcos District belonging to Quispicanchis Province, Cusco Department.
Paulina, 48, is the member. She has a spouse and five children. She works raising small farm animals, like guinea pigs and chickens, that she sells in the various farmers markets that exist in Urcos District. She works from 7am until 5pm and she raises her children through this business. She wants to expand the animal raising business and is asking for a loan to buy animals, like guinea pigs and chickens, as well as animal feed for them.
The other group members sell dry goods, are sheep merchants, textile merchants, food sellers and vegetable merchants.
The member thanks all those who are sharing her dream through this means and commits to repay her loan in a timely fashion.

The communal bank "Por un Futuro Mejor", meaning "For a Better Future" is made up of 9 achieving, hardworking, and enterprising women. The majority of them work in the market in different activities to improve their household's economy. They live in the surroundings of the Paute canton, located 35 km northeast from Cuenca. The climate is drier and warmer than in Cuenca, making it suitable for growing flowers. The people are dedicated to commerce, raising livestock, and agriculture. They are kind and courteous.
Rosa lives in the canton of Guachapala. She is 45 years old and the single mother of 5 daughters, aged 28, 27, 24, 21 and 20. Her three eldest daughters are married and independent. Her fourth daughter helps her with the household obligations and her youngest daughter is in university. She doesn't have a house of her own, which is why she rents.
Roda works in agriculture. To work she rents farm land to cultivate produce and vegetables. Her products are sold in the Paute market.
She was invited by a friend to join the communal bank. It is her third loan and she will invest it in the purchase of seed potatoes to cultivate.
Her dream is to buy a plot of land to keep on with her work.

Carmen is a 34 year-old married lady who completed elementary school. She has five children, two of whom are in school. Her business is buying and selling, and also making handicrafts. She makes plastic baskets which she also sells. She started out with just a little money and now has five years experience. She has the support of her husband who also buys and sells goods.
Carmen formed a group so that she could request a loan from ASDIR with which to buy different types of colored plastic for making different-sized baskets. The other members of the group work in different business activities including: raising animals, buying and selling, and handicrafts. Carmen hopes to grow her business.

Aranyaeli is in his early 40s and married with four children who are still going to school. He has a lorry which he is using for his transport business. He gets tenders for delivering things like sand, small stones, roofing tiles and building materials. He has been in this business for 5 years now. He works from 6.00am to 7.30pm daily and is able to make a fair monthly profit.
This will be his 5th loan from Tujijenge Tanzania. He used the previous loans to buy a Bajaji (tricycle), paid school fees and household expenses. He has paid back all of his loans successfully. He hopes for a loan to start poultry business. His dream is to one day build another house.
He will share this loan with his loan group "Venezuela" which has a total of 15 members, who will hold each other accountable for paying back their loans.

Kulbara Ismailova is 45 years old and married. She has a tight–knit family with four children, where all support and help each other. Kulbara has been engaged in cattle breeding since 1993, which was started with the initial capital of 40,000 KGS. Today the farm allows her to earn about $150 in a month from selling milk to her loyal customers and to the local dairy.
She works hard and makes every effort to improve her household, and for this reason she has applied for a loan of 100,000 KGS to purchase cattle. Using the revenues from this activity she plans to pay for a good education for her children.

Aaron is a resident and a farmer in Kitale, Western Kenya doing mixed farming and producing beans, vegetables, maize and milk. He is married with two children ages 8 and 2 years. Aaron earns additional income from his work as a painter.
Aaron has requested a loan of 55,000 KES from Juhudi Kilimo to boost his poultry business through purchase of additional birds and poultry feed. Aaron is optimistic this loan will improve his income just like his previous five have made life better and enabled him to provide for family needs like clothing and food. Aaron is focusing on having six quality dairy cows.
Aaron reiterates as do other farmers that the poor market prices for their produce are the main challenge in farming business.
Socorro : Peru

56-year old Socorro is married and doesn’t have the responsibility of children to look after. She and her husband live in their own house located in Chulucanas District, in the region of Piura, more than four hours from the town of Chiclayo, the capital of Lambayeque region.
Socorro has raised sheep for more than three years. She has specially built, large pens for the animals. Once the sheep have reached an ideal size and weight, she sells them in the local market. Her husband also works on the same plot of land that they inherited.
Her greatest wish is for her livestock to reach the best weight and size possible before she sells them. With the income she will buy more animals to fatten. There’s no doubt that she will succeed, as the inhabitants here are known for their entrepreneurial and vigorous spirit. To achieve her goal, Socorro has asked Kiva partner Edpyme Alternativa for a loan of 1500 soles.

Miriam Andia is 30 years old; she has two small children in her care. She’s married to Mr. Ronal Terceros and they live in Cochabamba’s Maica Central zone. Thanks to their efforts they at least have a roof over their heads to protect themselves and live with dignity together with their family.
Miriam works milking cows. She works hard every day and has to walk much to be able to sell her product. She needs the loan to buy feed and forage for her cattle because the bad weather conditions caused the death of one of her cows so she wants to feed the remaining ones better. She is grateful to people who, through Kiva, provide the opportunity to have funds that will allow her to better nourish her cows so that they won’t die.
Among Miriam’s future plans is taking out a new loan to do some home improvements.

Maria is 37 years old and she lives on Circunvalacion Oeste avenue in the city . She lives with her aunt and uncle as she left Potosi when she was a young girl. She worked as a secretary in the region for a water systems company but at the same time she also created crafts with the women in the community, carrying out group projects.
Maria was not able to complete her studies in business administration because she did not have anyone who could help her and she had to work and she had to make crafts. Maria is a single mother to a five-year old girl and she helps her with her businesses and she tries to always be with her. She only lives with her so she tries to be together as much time as possible because she wants to give her the attention that she did not have as a child, for other reasons. But Maria knew how to support herself.
Maria request a loan to purchase the materials that she needs to make needle-point crafts, paintings, and knits. the month of May will bring a fair where she will be able to sell all of her products. She also takes orders from families and from various centers in the area where the group of women work together. This way she will be able to improve her earnings. She dreams of having a little house of her own and to see her daughter finish school. Maria wants her daughter to study to be doctor, a dream that she had for herself. One day she wants to take her daughter to visit the city where she was born.

Antonio is 43 years old. He lives with his wife and three loving children. Antonio is a responsible man; he wants to provide a good education to his children. He had some setbacks in life, but he didn't let this deter him. On the contrary, he was motivated to succeed, and he worked hard on his cocoa and plantain crops. He sells these crops in the city of San Francisco, where he has a diverse group of buyers who purchase from him because they trust the quality of his products. He has been growing for 20 years, and his biggest challenge is working during the rainy season because he cannot accomplish as much. In the future he hopes to save enough from his earnings to buy more land. This will be his twelfth loan with MFP; he knows he has to make his payments punctually, and he is prepared to do so. He is responsible and shows solidarity with the other members of his community bank. The loan will be used to maintain his crops by hiring workers to prune and clear weeds.

Miriam trabaja extrayendo leche de sus vaquitas, trabaja fuertemente todos los días y tiene que caminar mucho para que pueda vender su producto.
Miriam necesita el préstamo para que pueda comprar alimento y forraje para su ganado debido a que las malas condiciones climáticas hicieron que muera una de sus vacas, es por esto que ella quiere dar una mejor alimentación a su ganado; ella está agradecida con la gente que por medio de Kiva le puede dar la oportunidad de contar con dinero para que pueda alimentar mejor a sus vacas y estás no mueran.

La señora María solicita el crédito para poder comprar material para realizar sus trabajos de bordados, pintados y tejidos ya que en el mes de Mayo abra una feria donde ella podría vender sus productos y también realiza trabajos a pedidos para distintas familias y para distintos centros de ayuda con el grupo de señoras que trabajan en la zona.
